Three Manhattanville University School of Nursing and Health Sciences Faculty Accepted as New York Academy of Medicine Fellows

Three Manhattanville University School of Nursing and Health Sciences faculty have been accepted as fellows of the New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM) for their significant contributions to medicine, public health, and health policy. Orhan Hakli, DNP, FPC-C, Assistant Professor; Christopher Hanley, PharmD, Director and Associate Professor, Chair of Pharmacology; and Christa Hartch, PhD, RN, FNP-C, Tenure-Track Assistant Professor will be officially inducted this fall in a ceremony at the New York Academy of Medicine in New York City.

The New York Academy of Medicine is a leading voice for innovation in public health and has a robust 177-year history. Today, the NYAM has the support of nearly 2,000 esteemed fellows and members. The NYAM fellowship offers unparalleled opportunities for networking, professional development, and collaboration across various disciplines. Additionally, NYAM Fellows are actively involved in cutting-edge research, educational initiatives, and health policy programs, enhancing their impact on urban health and well-being.

“The New York Academy of Medicine fellowship recognizes the expertise and talents of Drs. Hakli, Hanley, and Hartch,” said Debra A. Simons, PhD, RN, Dean of Manhattanville University’s School of Nursing and Health Sciences, who is herself a NYAM fellow. “This prestigious fellowship highlights the exceptional leadership and knowledge of these faculty members, all of whom are dedicated educators in the field of health and medicine. I am immensely proud of their accomplishments and acceptance as NYAM fellows.”

Dr. Hakli, Associate Dean of Nursing in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Manhattanville, is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner in private practice who has worked in various areas of health care including medical surgical nursing, cardiology, geriatrics, wound care, hyperbaric medicine, and primary care.

Dr. Hanley has more than a decade of experience in hospital, long-term care, and community practice settings. As an active clinician, he holds specialist certification as a Medication Therapy Management (MTM) provider. Dr. Hanley is also a seasoned educator, serving as the Chair of Pharmacology and teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level within the School of Nursing and Health Sciences as an Associate Professor. He is also on the clinical advisory and editorial boards of safeMedicate, an online educational application designed to empower learners as they develop and improve their drug dosage calculation skills.

Dr. Hartch is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Manhattanville and previously served as a Registered Nurse at healthcare facilities such as Greenwich Hospital and New York-Presbyterian Hospital. She also serves as the President of the Nursing Alumni Association and School of Nursing Advisory Board Member at the University of Virginia and President of the School of Nursing Alumni Board at Yale University. She has been nationally recognized for her research advances in medication compliance using an app and serves on the advisory board for the Medication Adherence App.
