Summer Fitness Program Builds Harrison Students’ Strength, Speed and Confidence

Student athletes from Harrison High School and LMK Middle School made the most of their summer vacation at the district’s six-week Summer Strength and Performance Program, led by district teachers and certified Strength and Conditioning Coaches Derrick Fish and Marina Caminita. Designed for middle and high school athletes of all experience levels, the program provided students with the opportunity to build strength and improve athletic performance. Workouts combined foundational and sport-specific training and conditioning, including weightlifting, medicine ball exercises, plyometrics, sprinting, core stability, agility and change-of-direction drills. Each full-body workout was carefully structured and designed to meet athletes where they are, from beginner to advanced, emphasizing proper technique, strength and power development, joint mobility and stability, speed and agility, endurance and work capacity, while helping athletes develop the skills and physical foundation to perform safely and effectively. The program included two morning sessions from 6:45-8:00 a.m. and 8:15-9:30 a.m.  Attendance was strong throughout the summer, with 120 students participating in the program. The program provided a great opportunity for students to improve athletic performance both individually and collectively as a team.
