P.E.O. Chapter AJ Larchmont Awards Record Scholarship Funds to Mamaroneck Seniors

The Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) Chapter AJ Larchmont announced that it has awarded a record amount of educational funds to graduating senior women from the Larchmont/Mamaroneck community. These awards were based on the women’s outstanding academics, leadership, participation in extracurricular activities, and community service.

Two 2024 graduates from Rye Neck High School were nominated for and received P.E.O. International and P.E.O. State of New York Scholarships. Isabel Palacios, competing with nominees throughout the U.S. and Canada, has been awarded the P.E.O. International STAR Scholarship of $2,500, and Laura Chillemi was selected from statewide nominees to receive the P.E.O. New York State Janet Griswold Scholarship of $1,500.

The Chapter AJ Memorial Scholarship in Memory of Maureen Foulke was awarded to Alexandra Tombleson and the Chapter AJ Memorial Scholarship in Memory of Mary Lee Berridge was awarded to Kate Bynum. Both students are 2024 graduates from Mamaroneck High School. The recipients of these $2,500 scholarships are selected by the local Chapter after a written application and interview. The Chapter AJ Memorial Scholarship is named to honor the memories of chapter members. Volunteers work throughout the year to earn funds to make these scholarships possible. For each of the past four years, this scholarship has been awarded to two graduating senior women in our community.

In addition to these scholarships, a special grant of $600 was awarded by the Chapter to Kaylee Taylor from Mamaroneck High School, and an additional grant of $1,000 was awarded to Laura Chillemi. Speaking for the Scholarship Committee, Friedhilde Milburn commented, “Our interviewers were impressed by the depth of the awardee’s accomplishments and commitment to their study plans. We are convinced that they will go far in achieving their goals and we wish them well.”

P.E.O. scholarship opportunities are open to young women who are citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States or Canada and who are graduating high school seniors at the time of application. For additional information on P.E.O. Scholarship opportunities, visit peointernational.org.
