McGoverns’ Stress Need for Sidewalks in Many Town Areas

Harrison Town Supervisor Richard Dionisio convened the September 18th Board meeting, beginning with authorization to purchase a rescue boat from Mid-Atlantic Rescue Systems at a cost of $16,822.15; authorization to accept the proposed 2026 Harrison Meadows Country Club fees.  Authorization of the probational appointment of Rocco DeRubeis to position of Assistant Building Inspector at an annual salary of $86,604, effective September 8, 2025.

Then, request by Town Engineer Michael J. Amodeo, P.E., CFM to accept the Building Permit Application for 65-67 Batavia Place, Block 0385, Lot 23, located within the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) designated flood plains, pursuant to Town Code Section 235-32-B states: “All plans for buildings built in flood areas as defined above shall be transmitted to the Town Engineer for recommendation as to the minimum floor level of the building permit conforming to the recommendations.”

The Fifth Annual Italian Heritage Festival will be held in West Harrison on Sunday, October 19th, at 11:30am, rain date Sunday, October 26th.

During Public Comment, Luke and Pamela McGovern pointed out the need for a sidewalk on Lake Street in West Harrison, as well as access to the Town Pool; trail access from Silver Lake to the Preserve Trails to the parking lot; public transportation, employees from Brightview Assistant Living Facility regularly walk from the bus stop near the library; and finally town liability.  “We have started an online petition,” McGovern concluded.

Concluding, Pamela advocated a speed zone outside of Harrison High School.
