Patrol Lieutenant Massaro Displays Special Blue Envelope at Town Board Meeting
By Stephen E. Lipken
Harrison Mayor/Supervisor Richard Dionisio convened the August 21st Board meeting, with Police Patrol Lieutenant Frank Massaro displaying a blue envelope containing license, registration and emergency contact(s) to be carried in autistic drivers’ vehicles, as requested by Police Chief John T. Vasta through the NYS Sheriff’s Office (nysheriffs.org).
“If one of the officers pulls an autistic driver over, there are directions for the officer and the driver. Some of the drivers may be nonverbal. This gives the officer an idea and can interact a little easier, so it is not like a ‘blind’ stop. The envelope can be obtained at the Police Station or delivered to the person’s home,” Massaro concluded.
