Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins Statement on County’s First Quarter Report
“The first quarter report makes clear that Westchester County continues to face significant financial constraints driven by rising costs and ongoing economic uncertainty. Increased expenses related to healthcare which is over budget by $9.4 million dollars, daycare subsidies which is over budget by $6.4 million dollars, and mandated services for children with special needs which is over budget by nearly $2 million dollars, are placing additional pressure on the County budget.
“At the same time, global instability, inflation and uncertainty surrounding future federal funding continue to create challenges not just for Westchester County, but also for governments across the country.
“While strong activity on Wall Street continues to provide some economic benefit locally, many working families are still struggling with the effects of higher costs and growing financial pressure. As we continue to navigate this difficult environment, we remain committed to managing taxpayer dollars responsibly, protecting critical County services and making thoughtful, strategic decisions that position Westchester County for long-term stability.”
