Two Police Officers Promoted; Public Hearing Opened Regarding Proposed Zoning Text Amendment
by Stephen E. Lipken
Harrison Supervisor/Mayor Richard Dionisio welcomed the community to the May 22nd Town Board meeting. Since the Town Clerk and Deputy Town Clerk were both unavailable, Dionisio appointed Dorothy Klein as Second Deputy Town Clerk.
Mayor Dionisio then provided an update on the 67 Grant Avenue Associates LLC Planning Board Application, “which has been a topic of great interest and concern among the residents
and surrounding communities. I was informed that earlier in the week, 67 Grant Avenue Associates LLC formally withdrew its proposed development application,” Dionisio stated.
In Report from Supervior Dionisio on Decisions Made Following Town Board meeting held
on May 7th, Police Officers Charles G. Pascale and Matias A. Alves were probationally promoted
to positions of Police Sergeant, effective May 12th at annual salary of $151,896; authorization
for agreement with E7 Leadership LLC to provide employee training between May 19th
and May 23rd in amount of $14,400.
Recreation Superintendent Gary Salvo requested approval for the annual music License Agreement from BMI for $446.00.
Director of Community Services, Catherine Tammaro accepted a $2,000 anonymous donation
to the Harrison Food Pantry.
Town Attorney Andrea Rendo requested authorization to amend paragraph 15 of the Inter-Municipal Agreement between the Town/Village and Harrison Central School District in connection with the Floodplain Restoration.
A Public Hearing was opened, regarding a Proposed Zoning Text Amendment enacting
a temporary moratorium on Multifamily Dwellings, excluding two-family houses in areas
of Oakland Avenue, Grant Avenue, Halstead Avenue, Calvert Street and Harrison Avenue.
Resident Gary Chiarella requested an eight-month Moratorium and addition of Glen Oaks Drive, Colonial Place and Purdy Street “since they all have great potential to build big buildings in these areas.” Dionisio replied that the County sets the time limits.
“It can be more,” Town Attorney Andrea Rendo added. “If the Board decides to change the language of the Moratorium, it may go back for comments from the County, Planning Board
and go through the process again.”
The Moratorium was approved by Roll Call Vote.
