White Plains Mayor Tours Westchester Medical Center and Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital

City of White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach recently got a behind-the-scenes glimpse of operations at the premier centers of healthcare in Westchester County during a personal tour of WMCHealth’s Westchester Medical Center campus.

Two of Mayor Roach’s tour stops were at the only facilities of their kind in Westchester County.

His first stop was WMCHealth’s 5,500-square-foot eHealth Center, which boasts 20 multi-media stations equipped with the latest telehealth patient monitoring technologies and software. There, Mayor Roach saw how clinicians skilled in critical care use advanced healthcare technologies to monitor intensive care unit patients and provide complementary support to bedside intensive care unit care teams at Westchester Medical Center and WMCHealth’s MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, as well at other hospitals in the Hudson Valley.

Mayor Roach also visited Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, the only hospital in Westchester County dedicated to advanced care pediatrics, and where all other hospitals in Westchester County and the Hudson Valley transfer their most seriously ill and injured children for care.  Led by Nicole Lucas, RN, Vice President for Patient Care Services at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, Mayor Roach visited the hospital’s dedicated pediatric hematology and oncology inpatient unit, and other inpatient “neighborhoods” in which pediatric specialist provide around-the-clock care.  Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital is home to Westchester County’s only pediatric intensive care unit as well as the county’s highest level neonatal intensive care unit.  Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital also has Westchester County’s single Level I pediatric trauma and burn care programs.

Westchester Medical Center’s Caregiver Center also was a stop on Mayor Roach’s tour.  The space is a respite area for families with loved ones under the care of healthcare specialists at Westchester Medical Center, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital and the Behavioral Health Center, the third hospital on WMCHealth’s Westchester County campus.

Josh Ratner, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer for the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) hosted Mayor Roach and led his tour.

“White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach was able to witness first-hand the advanced care his city’s residents are receiving at WMCHealth’s Westchester County campus,” said Ratner. “With more than 12,000 transfers from other hospitals in Westchester County, the Hudson Valley, upstate New York and beyond last year alone, we are the regional leaders in advanced and primary care.” And to enhance our efforts even further, we will soon break ground on a new Critical Care Tower that will bring the future of advanced healthcare Westchester County.”
