County Legislator Nancy Barr Joins NACo Human Services and Education Committee

Legislator Nancy Barr was recently appointed by NYSAC President Ben Boykin to the National Association of Counties (NACo) Human Services and Education Policy Steering Committee. This committee oversees critical matters related to children’s issues, foster care, public assistance, income support, services for senior citizens and individuals with disabilities, immigration policy, social services, and education at all levels.

Legislator Nancy Barr (Harrison, Rye Brook, Port Chester) said, “I am honored to serve on the NACo Human Services and Education Policy Steering Committee. This is an incredible opportunity to advocate for our most vulnerable populations and work collaboratively with other leaders across the country to shape policies that positively impact our communities.”

In her fourth two-year term as County Legislator representing District 6, Barr chairs the Human Services Committee and co-chairs the Board’s Families Task Force. She has been a dedicated advocate for Westchester families, introducing legislation aimed at improving public health and safety, advancing environmental sustainability, and enhancing access to essential services. Her notable contributions include spearheading initiatives to fight wage theft and ban polystyrene cups and containers, as well as establishing the People with Disabilities Advisory Committee, which advises on critical issues affecting individuals with disabilities.

Westchester County Legislator (White Plains, Scarsdale, West Harrison) and New York State Association of Counties President Ben Boykin said, “Legislator Nancy Barr’s dedication and expertise make her the ideal choice for this role. I have no doubt that she will be a tremendous asset to NACo, bringing valuable insights and a strong commitment to advancing the needs of our communities throughout the nation and in New York State and Westchester County.”
