Harrison Public Library Hosts December Events

The Harrison Public Library is gearing up for many exciting events in December. The Bling’s the Thing, a Beaded Earring Workshop will begin the month on Friday, December 2 at 4 pm. A Holiday Baking program with Tina Zaccardi making Gingerbread Houses will be held on Saturday, December 3 at 2 pm. Award-winning baker Tina Zaccardi will be showing how to bake the perfect holiday dessert — Gingerbread Cookies and Gingerbread Houses — with Royal Icing. Teens are welcome. On Monday, December 5 at 7 pm, a Holiday Talk on the Three Kings, Jerusalem and Bethlehem with Toni McKeen will discuss the origins of the story of the Three Magi and the symbolism of the gifts they brought with them. Holiday Tales Narrated by Actor Alan Sklar will be told on  Wednesday, December 7 at 7pm, Online. Sklar will be narrating “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” by Dylan Thomas and “The Gift of The Magi” by O. Henry, two favorite holiday tales to be enjoyed by the entire family. “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” is a popular Christmas tale told from the viewpoint of a young boy, portraying a nostalgic and simpler time, and short story “The Gift of the Magi,” first published in 1905, features a young husband and wife and how they deal with the challenge of buying secret Christmas gifts for each other with very little money. Delicious Gatherings with Cookbook Author Tara Teaspoon with Wendy Pregiato will be on site on Monday, December 10 at 2 pm. Magazine food editor and trained chef Tara Teaspoon will be speaking about her latest cookbook — Delicious Gatherings — in conversation with Westchester cook Wendy Pregiato. A Movie Matinee Screening of Bullet Train featuring Brad Pitt will be held on Monday, December 12 at 2 pm. Registration is not required. This film is rated R and includes graphic violence.

Japanese volunteers will host a relaxing origami workshop. Origami is the art of folding paper that is widely popular with all age groups. The Harrison Public Library is going on a field trip to the New York Public Library’s Map Division! They will be touring the NYPL’s Map Division and getting a glimpse of some rare maps and others related to Harrison and West Harrison on Tuesday, December 13 at 3 pm. at The New York Public Library, The Stephen A. A Self Defense Tips Workshop with Rayot DiFate will be held on Friday, December 16 at 4 pm, onsite. Harrison Veteran and retired Yonkers Police Officer, Rayot Difate, will be discussing his new memoir and giving some self-defense tips. He is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Achievement for his commitment to martial arts and volunteerism, holds a 10-degree black belt, and is still competing in tournaments across the country.
