The Harrison Public Library, 2 Bruce Avenue, has announced new programs for August. One-on-One Career Coaching Workshops will take place on Mondays, August 1, 8, 15, 23 and 30, at 6 pm, on Site in the Conference Room. Job recruiter Francisco Gomez will be available to help anyone who would like help on preparing or revising a resume or cover letter Recent graduates or anyone looking to transition into a new career are welcome. Create a Masterpiece with Connie Manna will take place on Monday, August 8 at 7 pm ET, online. Join for another amazing painting class with art instructor Connie Manna. This class will be painting Monet’s Tulip Field in Holland. Painting supplies will be available to the first 20 people who register for the program. You will be notified via email when to pick up the paint kits. Recommended paint colors are phthalo blue, titanium white, burnt Sienna and cadmium yellow medium. A Communal Drum Circle with Nanette Garcia will take place on Wednesday, August 10, 4:00-5:00 pm, on site in the Reading Garden (Weather Permitting). Join for a special communal drum circle with Nanette Garcia as the group empowers one another in the act of celebrating community and life through rhythm and music. Other beneficial qualities include developing frustration, tolerance and impulse control, building self-esteem, de-stressing, and connecting mind and body. All are welcome to experience the soothing power of drumming altogether at this family-friendly event. The program will take place outdoors, weather permitting. The drums will be provided. Rachel Carson and Jacques Cousteau, Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Lecture with Toni McKeen will take place on Wednesday, August 10, 7:00-8:30 pm, online. This month’s summer lecture will feature ocean explorers who changed the world — Rachel Carson and Jacques Cousteau, presented by Toni McKeen. Considered by many to be the finest nature writer of the Twentieth Century, Rachel Carson (1907-1964) is remembered as the woman who challenged the notion that humans could obtain mastery over nature by chemicals, bombs and space travel than for her studies of ocean life. Jacques Cousteau’s name is forever linked to his explorations of the ocean world. Cousteau (1910-1997) was a French naval officer, divemaster, oceanographer, filmmaker and author who co-invented the first open-circuit SCUBA set and made the first underwater documentaries. Hiding in Plain Sight, a Mental Health Discussion Panel will be on Site in the Community Room on Monday, August 15, 7 pm. The library will be hosting a panel discussion in the Community Room for families to attend to discuss preventive measures parents can implement as a new school year begins. A Q&A session will follow the discussion. This program highlights topics explored in Hiding in Plain Sight: Youth Mental Illness, a film by Erik Ewers and Christopher Loren Ewers, is presented by Ken Burns. It features first-person accounts from more than 20 young people, ranging in age from 11 to 27, who live with mental health conditions, as well as parents, teachers, friends, healthcare providers in their lives, and independent mental health experts. Adult Summer Reading Book Trivia Night with Nikki Erlick takes place on Wednesday, August 17th, 7:00-8:30 pm, Online. Join for a trivia night in honor of this year’s Summer Reading theme — “Oceans of Possibilities” with Summer Reading Ambassador Nikki Erlick. Brush up on your book trivia and topics relating to the ocean. It will be a fun evening to share love of books and raise a glass in honor of debut author Nikki Erlick.
