Purchase College Named a Best College in the 2025 Edition of The Fiske Guide to Colleges

Purchase College, State University of New York (SUNY), has been selected for inclusion in the 2025 edition of The Fiske Guide to Colleges, which includes profiles of more than 300 of the “best and most interesting colleges in the U.S., Canada, and U.K.”

According to the description in the 2025 guide, Purchase College is especially notable for its “academic environment that provides a strong sense of community yet celebrates individuals for their unique talents and contributions.” The guide singles out the college’s many strong programs in the arts, liberal arts, and sciences including environmental studies, dance, biology, film, new media, playwriting and screenwriting, and arts management. The guide also focuses on the academic, professional, and social opportunities afforded by the college’s location near New York City. Also praised is Purchase’s campus life, which features “funky traditions and an active music scene.”

As one student is quoted, “The professors are engaged, extremely qualified, and very interested in our education,” while another student is quoted as saying, “There’s a raw energy that exists on campus in the students and professors — that I don’t think many other colleges have.”

Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, Patricia Bice, said, “We’re proud that Purchase has once again been nationally recognized for providing an excellent education in the arts, liberal arts, and sciences. We’re also pleased that the Fiske Guide looks beyond what happens in the classroom and praises Purchase for fostering an inclusive, collaborative, creative environment where students are free to pursue their passions and interests.”

The Fiske Guide to Colleges, which has been published for 41 years, provides a subjective and systematic look at colleges, giving readers the real personality of the institutions based on a wide range of subjects. Research, accompanied by testimonials from students, offers helpful and honest information about academic climates and courses.
